In all my work I seek to encourage the viewer to look closer, to appreciate and to find joy in the natural world that we are part of. My waxwing is created from layers of naturally dyed silk and free motion embroidery and sits on an eco-printed background. I’m interested in how we are connected to the natural world and the lives we share it with. All my work starts with observation, then drawing before I develop ideas in textiles.
Waxwings do not visit us every year, when they do it’s known as an irruption. I love the excitement of finding them, their beautiful plumage and insistent calls, knowing they won’t be with us for long. They are a reminder to enjoy the moment.
